About

About Me:
My name is Grace Montgomery, and I am currently in my second year studying Media and Communications at Birmingham City University. Entering the course as a broad course student, I have been able to delve into each aspect of the media that was of particular interest to me, including journalism, television, photography and PR. Although I have enjoyed taking many of these different modules, journalism is ultimately the field that I wish to enter in the near future, and therefore I intend to specialise in this particular field in my third and final year.
I am passionate about accurate, well-written pieces, and enjoy writing articles and features on a vast array of topics, varying from music and fashion to entertainment and events. I enjoy researching, interviewing and writing, so all of the journalistic elements appeal to me.
I am a fan of blogging and using social networking sites regularly, including Facebook and Twitter. Reading is also another pastime I enjoy, whether this is a magazine (from Cosmopolitan to Fabulous to NME!) or a good book (from crime thrillers to autobiographies!).
As a perfectionist, I always work to ensure that what I produce is completed to the best of my ability, and take all constructive criticism and feedback on board in order to improve in the future.
My Professional Media Development Portfolio:
This blog has been created to act as a Media Development Portfolio, displaying my work and showcasing my skills as a media practitioner. I wish to use this blog to present all of my work, including articles I have produced during my work experience, work created during university, and any other additional projects that I feel may be of relevance. There will also be content which engages with current issues and debates within the media, and in particular, the field of journalism.
Personal Career Aims:

·         To flourish as a media practitioner; continuing to develop and learn key skills that will be of great use in the industry
·         To gain as much work experience as possible with journalistic institutions
·         To become more familiar with and learn more about professional working media environments
·         To become more knowledgeable about the media industry and the current issues and debates that are prevalent within all fields, but primarily focusing on journalism

Aspirational Career Destination:
My ultimate dream is to become a journalist, preferably writing for a magazine. I would love to make this dream a reality, which is why I am looking for as much work experience as possible to expand my knowledge of the industry.

Work experience:
The work experience I have had to date has been extremely beneficial and enjoyable. I have worked in office environments and contributed to various journalistic institutions including Hello Birmingham and Aspire4u/Talent UK. These placements have enabled me to utilise my writing skills and have also provided me with the opportunity to complete several interesting and exciting tasks which I have thoroughly enjoyed, including researching and conducting interviews.
I would love to further my experiences of working in the journalism industry, utilising the skills I have acquired so far yet also developing them further and gaining new ones.
